After a long season of bad weather, we notice how our health is affected and how our mood worsens. We feel down, with less energy and a worse mood, possibly making us feel very sad for no apparent reason.

It is at these times that we realize how much we need the Sun, sunlight and the sunshine vitamin.

“A smile is the same as sunshine; it banishes winter from the human countenance.”
Quoted by the famous French poet Victor Hugo

The benefits of the sun

The sun has several benefits for our body. One being, it makes us release a hormone called melatonin that helps us sleep better, since sunlight regulates our daily routine. Melatonin also helps us reduce stress levels and therefore improves our wellbeing.

Also, the sun is a source of vitamin D. Quoting medical articles, vitamin D is a necessary nutrient for our health. It helps the body absorb calcium, one of the main substances needed for strong bones. Along with calcium, vitamin D helps prevent osteoporosis, a disease that makes bones thinner, weaker and more prone to fractures. Muscles need it for movement and nerves need it to transmit messages between the brain and different parts of the body. Vitamin D is essential for the immune system to fight of bacteria and viruses that may attack it.

Over the years we need more vitamin D. so why not include a visit to Benidorm in our diary, making this an ideal plan to make up for that lack of vitamin D.
