The Benidorm Major Fiestas begin TODAY!
Don’t hesitate and come and live the fiestas from the inside.
This is how it all began
The Major Fiestas date back to the year 1700 when the people of Benidorm found a ship stranded on the coast of Benidorm. They burnt it to avoid epidemics and what was their surprise when they discovered the image of a virgin that had resisted the flames.
That image was moved to the church where she is now the patron saint and to which the people of Benidorm pay homage year after year.
For 50 years, the moment when the image of the Virgen del Sufragio was found has been re-enacted. This re-enactment has been declared a “fiesta of tourist interest in the Valencian Community” by the Regional Ministry of Tourism and shows what happened in 1740. This is how these festivities in honour of the Virgin of Suffrage were born.
Music, light and gunpowder
Another event that marks the beginning of the festivities is the unveiling of the artistic lighting. During these festive days, the streets of Benidorm are dressed in colour thanks to luminous structures with different compositions that provide a festive atmosphere.
We also invite you to visit the Porrat, the market of typical and artisan products, made up of more than 40 stalls, in the Via Emilio Ortuño, where we can taste typical and artisan products, such as churros and hot chocolate.
Oh, and don’t miss the giant paella on Wednesday 16th November and the Benidorm Fancy Dress Party on Thursday 17th November.
